The Value of Experience: The Process of Working with Knight Varga Interiors
Thoughtful design, from the first conversation to the finishing touches.
Creating a home is an exciting undertaking, but it also involves hundreds of decisions, many of which are connected in ways that aren't immediately obvious.
At Knight Varga, we believe the experience of designing a home should be as thoughtfully considered as the home itself.
Every project is different, and so are the people who live in it. While our process follows a familiar path, we adapt our approach to suit each client, their priorities and the home we're creating together.
Our philosophy is grounded in four things: Clarity, Judgment, Sequencing and Confidence.
Clarity in understanding what matters most. Judgment developed through years of experience. Sequencing decisions so the right things happen at the right time. And confidence that comes from knowing you have an experienced team guiding you through the process.
01. Getting to Know You
Initial Consultation & Vision Setting
Every project begins with a conversation. We want to understand how you live, what you're hoping to achieve and what matters most to you.
Whenever possible, we follow that conversation with an in-person meeting at the property. It's an opportunity to explore the possibilities, understand the architecture and, just as importantly, get to know one another.
From there, we prepare an initial scope of work and a budget for our design services. We recognize that projects evolve as the design develops, but this provides a starting point and a shared understanding of what's ahead.
02. Developing the Vision
Concept & Design Development
This is where the design begins to take shape.
For renovations, we develop floor plans based on our clients' needs, the existing architecture and the possibilities we see within the space. For new builds, we work from the architect's plans, considering how the interiors will function and feel.
At the same time, we're exploring materials, finishes and the overall aesthetic direction, while continuing conversations with everyone who will call the house home.
We then present our ideas through drawings, material samples and concept boards, giving clients an opportunity to see how everything comes together. Depending on the size of the project and the client, this may happen over one meeting or several, allowing us to gather feedback and refine the design until we have a clear direction.
03. Refining the Design
Design Refinement & Finalization
With the overall direction established, we begin developing the detailed drawings and specifications that will guide construction.
The design continues to evolve during this stage as we work through the finer details, explore solutions and make decisions that bring everything together.
Every client approaches this part of the process differently. Some appreciate additional visuals and renderings, while others are happy to leave more of the decisions in our hands. We tailor our approach to the level of involvement each client is comfortable with, while keeping them informed as the design progresses.
This is also where sequencing and judgment become particularly important. Decisions are interconnected and understanding what needs to be resolved now and what it will affect later helps the project move forward with fewer surprises.
04. Bringing the Design to Life
Collaboration & Project Management
As construction gets underway, we work closely with the builder, trades and other members of the project team to ensure the design is carried through as intended.
We attend regular site meetings, review shop drawings, check electrical and lighting rough-ins, and address questions as they arise. Some meetings involve individual trades, while others bring together the builder, client and entire project team.
There are always decisions to be made along the way. Our ongoing involvement helps keep the details coordinated, the communication clear and the overall design on track.
05. Making It Home
Final Styling & Handover
The final stage is where everything comes together. We oversee the installation of furnishings, window treatments, wallpaper, bedding, artwork and the finishing touches that make a house feel like home.
For some clients, our involvement goes even further, selecting everything from tableware to cookware and preparing the home so it's truly move-in ready.
It's a particularly rewarding part of the process, when years of planning and countless decisions finally come together into a home that feels complete, personal and ready to enjoy.
The Knight Varga Difference
While these five steps provide a framework, the real value of our process lies in everything that happens between them. Knowing when to ask another question. Recognizing when a decision will affect something further down the line. Understanding how the architectural, technical and aesthetic elements of a home need to work together.
As co-founders, Trish and Nicole are personally involved in every project, from the initial conversations through to the final installation. We intentionally work with a limited number of clients so we can provide that continuity and attention throughout.
Great design is built on clarity long before it's built on site.
Ultimately, our goal is to give our clients the confidence to enjoy the process, knowing that the details are in experienced hands.
