4 Ways to Elevate Your Home for Spring

Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s Party!’
— Robin Williams

After months of cold weather and dark days we all look forward to the arrival of spring. We are very lucky in Vancouver that the temperature rises and the early spring bulbs start to sprout in February inspiring us to open our windows and welcome in the change of seasons. Here are 5 easy tips you do this weekend!

#1. Start with a Spring Clean

Edit your closets and cupboards - give things away, decide what to keep and properly store seasonal items.

#2. Add Fresh Flower & Plants

Spring is all about new growth and renewal, and incorporating fresh flowers and plants into your home is a great way to bring the outdoors in. This can be as easy as a vase of fresh tulips on your dining table or a potted fern in your living room from your local florist. We love decorating with fresh seasonal branches as they last longer indoors than most cut flowers. Make friends with your local florist and talk to them about what is seasonally available. Plants and flowers add colour and life to your home.

#3. Swap out the Heavy Textiles

As the weather warms up it’s time to put away the heavy wool blankets and faux fur pillows, and replace them with lighter weight linens, pops of white and light colours. Invest in a great white linen table cloth or napkins and use them daily. The beauty of good linen is that it takes on a soft relaxed look the more you wash and dry it.

PRO TIP: When you are shopping for accent cushions, purchase standard sizes like 20x20 or 22x22. As seasons change you can easily and affordably swap out the covers for something new and store the off season for next year.

4. Add Natural Materials

Natural materials like rattan, wicker and light woods remind us of warmer climates and are perfect for spring and summer. Consider layering a natural woven rug with your existing living room rug - or take this opportunity to have the winter rug cleaned and stored until fall. Depending on where you live it might also be time to bring out your patio furniture, especially if you have a covered space protected from spring showers where you can enjoy time outside as the days get longer.
