Summer has a way of changing our perspective. For us, it's a season of travel, long evenings, project milestones, new beginnings, and the small observations that quietly shape the way we think about design.

Rather than our usual design-focused article, we thought we'd share a few of the moments that inspired us this summer, both in and out of the studio. We hope you'll enjoy this little glimpse behind the scenes and perhaps feel inspired to notice something new in your own neighbourhood, your travels, or even your own home.

**What Tokyo Taught Me About Design**
This summer I had the opportunity to explore Tokyo with my sister and my 19-year-old niece. Of course, I loved the incredible food, architecture, history, shopping and craftsmanship, but what stayed with me most wasn't something I could pack in my suitcase. It was a feeling.
Despite being one of the largest cities in the world, Tokyo felt remarkably calm. The streets were immaculate, public transportation ran effortlessly, and people were incredibly polite, helpful and respectful. Everything seemed thoughtfully considered. It reminded me that the best experiences often come from hundreds of small decisions working quietly together in the background.

As designers, that's exactly what we're striving for in the homes we create.

(And yes... next time I'll be visiting in April or October instead of July! The weather was incredibly hot. I'm already looking forward to returning to explore more temples, public spaces, neighbourhood ramen shops and late-night yakitori.)

I've always considered myself a lifelong learner, and returning home inspired me to understand more about the Japanese way of life.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

This summer we celebrated the completion of a custom waterfront home in West Vancouver. This is a project we've had the privilege of working on for nearly three years.

Watching our clients prepare to spend the final weeks of summer in a home that began as conversations, sketches, drawings and countless thoughtful decisions is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. Projects like these remind us that great homes aren't created overnight. They're built patiently over time, with trust, collaboration and a shared vision. More photos to come!

Worth Sharing

***A Restaurant We'll Happily Return To***
One of the best meals of the summer wasn't halfway around the world it was just a few minutes from our studio. I first visited **Kavita** for my birthday earlier this year and couldn't stop thinking about it, so when it came time to celebrate one of my closest friend’s birthdays, I knew exactly where we were going.
Every dish was exceptional, but what stayed with me was the story behind the food. The chef draws inspiration from regional traditions and family recipes from India while thoughtfully pairing those influences with beautiful local ingredients.
It's a reminder that the most memorable experiences, whether a meal or a home, are rooted in authenticity, craftsmanship and thoughtful storytelling.

Summer at the Lake

While Trish was exploring Tokyo, some of my favourite summer days were much closer to home. Spending time at Buntzen Lake with my brother, his dogs, and Reese is one of my favourite ways to recharge. There’s something about being surrounded by nature, watching the dogs swim for hours, and enjoying the slower pace of a day outdoors that never gets old.

The perfect ending? A stop at Brewery Row in Port Moody for pizza before heading home. I'm still not sure who enjoys that tradition more… me or Reese.

Sometimes inspiration doesn't come from travelling across the world. Sometimes it's found in familiar places, shared with the people, and dogs. you love most.

Studio Life

***Welcome, Chia***
Our little studio family grew this summer. Isabelle recently adopted Chia (middle), a rescue from Mexico City, and Reese (left) and Bleu (right) have happily welcomed their newest four-legged friend.
The three have quickly become regular fixtures around the studio and enthusiastic quality-control inspectors whenever new samples arrive.

As summer gives way to autumn, our attention begins to shift toward one of our favourite times of year.

This year, Trish is the Event Chair for Homes for the Holidays and is working hard to bring the event to life alongside an incredible committee made up of YWCA staff, volunteers, designers, sponsors and supporters. Nicole and Isabelle will be rolling up their sleeves during setup week too, helping wherever they're needed as everything comes together.

After many years of being involved with Homes for the Holidays, it continues to be something very close to our hearts. It's a wonderful reminder of what can be accomplished when creativity, generosity and community come together with a shared purpose, and we're looking forward to sharing more as the season unfolds.
