Condo Kitchen Renovation: The Dramatic Before & After

This large-scale condo renovation marked a meaningful transition for our clients, who were downsizing from a long-time family home into a generous 1980s-era condominium. While the square footage offered plenty of potential, the original floor plan reflected its era: enclosed rooms, heavy separations, and limited natural light. From the outset, our goal was to reimagine the entire condo layout to better reflect how our clients live today—starting with a comprehensive review of the full floor plan and how each space connects.

Reworking the Floor Plan

Before any design decisions were made, we stepped back to look at the condo as a whole. The existing layout felt compartmentalized, which disrupted flow and prevented natural light from moving through the space. By studying the full floor plan, we identified opportunities to remove barriers, improve circulation, and create stronger visual connections between rooms—setting the foundation for a more cohesive home.

The Kitchen Before: Dark, Disconnected, and Limiting

The kitchen quickly became the focal point of the renovation. In its original state, it felt dark, enclosed, and disconnected from the rest of the living spaces—an unfortunate reality for clients who love to cook and entertain. The before photos tell the story clearly: tight circulation paths, poor sightlines, and a layout that limited both functionality and enjoyment.

Opening Up the Plan to Let Light Lead the Way

Our design approach focused on opening up the space to invite light deeper into the condo. Select walls were removed to improve sightlines and circulation, immediately changing how the home felt. The former separation between the foyer and kitchen was replaced with a warm wood slat feature and integrated ledge—creating a sense of arrival while maintaining openness and architectural interest.

A New Kitchen Layout Designed Around Lifestyle

By relocating the dining area closer to the terrace, we were able to enlarge and square off the kitchen, transforming it into the true heart of the home. The new kitchen floor plan allowed for improved workflow, increased storage, and generous prep space—while also making room for a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a highly personal feature that reflects our clients’ passion for collecting and entertaining.

The Kitchen After: Light-Filled, Functional, and Intentional

The after photos reveal a dramatic transformation. What was once a dark, enclosed kitchen is now bright, open, and central to daily life. The kitchen feels purposeful and welcoming—designed not just for cooking, but for gathering, hosting, and enjoying the home together.

A Before-and-After Transformation Rooted in Thoughtful Planning

This project is a clear example of how a well-considered floor plan—and a carefully designed kitchen layout—can completely redefine a home. By prioritizing function, light, and lifestyle, the renovation delivers a modern, highly functional condo that supports the way our clients live today, while honoring the scale and potential of the original space.
